WHAT ESTILL IS NEEDED FOR:

All Estill exercises, including work on vocal qualities, can be applied both to the singing voice and to the spoken voice.

EVT can teach actors and singers to improve the effectiveness of vocal production, better manage the effort of performance, optimize muscle work and the role of breathing, vary the tones based on the character or style, lighten or darken the voice, clean it or “dirty” it, increase or eliminate the nasalization to “characterize” a character, increase the projection, audibility and volume of the voice, control all the structures that contribute to the production of vowels and consonants in order to work on a more conscious diction and easily master the accents of different languages, of different dialects (and sociolects), and much more.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

The main articulators (tongue, jaw and lips) have a very underestimated role in vocal training.

In reality, structural, functional or technical problems that affect them even in part can lead to limitations in volume and projection, a restriction of the vocal range and an increase in effort in general, with consequences also on vocal health.

Unfortunately, much of the work that concerns them is based on dogmas and clichés that have very little scientific evidence, and even when effective work is proposed, the possible individual characteristics (functional or dysfunctional) of the student are often forgotten, as well as the continuous interaction of these structures with the sung vowel or consonant (which is why often the same musical phrase with different words has a completely different vocal output in terms of ease in the range and projection).

We will analyze the articulators from a functional point of view, learning to identify any warning signs that may suggest consulting a specialist, exploring theoretically and practically the possibilities of movement and their effect on sound and sonic effectiveness, learning to manage and minimize the interactions of diction (different vowels and consonants) on performance, with the help of exercises and training protocols for working on spoken and sung text.

This Special Topic Workshop is designed to create connections between the principles and exercises of Estill Voice Training® and other vocal specialties and professions. This personalized introductory experience can focus on a specific audience or on an advanced study of EVT® for Level 1 and 2 course participants or for certification candidates.

At the end of the workshop, a certificate of participation will be issued. This certificate is not a requirement for the Estill Voice Training® trainer certification.
